Apple has re-released iOS 17.6.1 for iPhone and iPadOS 17.6.1 for iPad. The new build number is 21G101 for iOS 17.6.1, while the old build number was 21G93.
It is unclear what is different about the new build, or why Apple didn’t label this update as iOS 17.6.2. Additionally, the new build is not listed on Apple’s security updates page (yet anyway), further adding to the mystery.
Separately, Apple has released watchOS 10.6.1 and tvOS 17.6.1 for Apple Watch and Apple TV.
How to Update to iOS 17.6.1 & iPadOS 17.6.1, Again
As usual, start by backing up your iPhone or iPad.
- Open the “Settings” app on iPhone or iPad
- Go to “General”, then go to “Software Update”
- Choose to “Update Now” to download and install iOS 17.6.1 or iPadOS 17.6.1
The iPhone or iPad will restart to finish installation.
If you have an Apple TV or Apple Watch, those devices can be updated through their respective software update mechanisms as well.
Advanced users can use IPSW files to update their devices, but for most people the best way to update is directly on the device using the Settings method outlined above.
