Overcast adds new listening stats and 48-hour undo features

The popular podcast player Overcast has gotten a big update today with a new listening stats feature. The app can now show you which podcasts you’ve listened to most over the last two years.

Today’s Overcast update also adds an incredibly useful new 48-hour history and undo feature to help you recover from accidentally skipping a podcast.

The new 48-hour listening history feature builds upon the undo seek feature that Overcast introduced earlier this year.

  • 48-hour History and Undo: Accidentally seek too far, leave your phone playing overnight, or delete the wrong episode, podcast, or playlist? Just undo it!

The undo seek feature has been one of my favorite parts of Overcast’s big update from July, so I’m thrilled to see this new feature expand even further.

Meanwhile, the new Listening Stats feature gives Overcast users a great way of recapping their podcast listening on a daily, monthly, or yearly basis.

  • Listening Stats: See your top podcasts by year, month, or day, with stats going back to the start of 2023! You can even generate images of your top podcasts to share on social media.

The new 48-hour history and listening stats features are available today for Overcast Premium users. Alongside this update, Overcast Premium is also getting a price increase from $9.99 per year to $14.99 per year.

This marks the first price increase in Overcast’s eight-year history. The price increase goes into effect for new subscribers on November 21 and for existing subscribers when their subscription renews.

Overcast developer Marco Arment explains:

“My business model is to provide a huge surplus of value to you over time, far greater than what I charge, so when I eventually ask for more, it’s a no-brainer. I hope I’ve achieved that for you.”

Overcast has been in my iPhone, iPad, and Mac docks for years and I’ve always thought the $9.99 per year price was too generous. I’m happy to pay more, especially given the rate at which Overcast has added new features this year.

Overcast is available on the App Store as a free download.
