Fun: Forget to Empty Your Mac Trash? Have Buzzing Flies to Remind You

A fun new Mac app offers a rather creative way to remind you to empty your Mac Trash can… buzzing flies! Yes indeed, after your Mac Trash can has accumulated a little too much clutter, BananaBin puts buzzing flies around the trash, offering an unmistakable visual reminder to empty your digital Trash bin.

Could you simply set Trash to automatically empty itself? Yes you could, but that’s a lot less fun than having little annoying flies buzzing around your Trash in the Mac Dock!

BananaBin is free (at least for now as it’s under development) with some basic configuration options; launch at login, and the ability to set a buzzing fly threshold at 10 MB, 1 GB, or 10 GB. Once your desired Trash size threshold has been set, your Mac Trash can will start accumulating little flies that zip around.

A digital fly swatter is not included, but you can use your cursor to sort of swat away the flies as they buzz around your trash.

Combine BananaBin with the equally goofy Mac Bouncy Ball app, and you’re well on your way to some deeply fun distractions, or productivity, depending on how you look at it.

So don’t let your Trash can turn into a huge storage hogging mess, and if you need a little visual indicator that’s quite fun and very creative to tend to your digital housekeeping, BananaBin just might be for you.
