Apple Wallet adds digital ID support for another state

Apple continues to add new supported states to its Wallet digital ID program. Slowly but surely, more of the US makes it possible to include your driver’s license digitally on iPhone and Apple Watch. The latest addition? New Mexico now supports digital IDs.

New Mexico is the latest state to support digital IDs

New Mexico has announced that digital ID support is available now on iPhone via the Wallet app.

You can add your driver’s license or state ID for use on your iPhone and/or Apple Watch.

If you have a New Mexico ID, it’s easy to get started:

To add your ID to your iPhone and any paired Apple Watch, open Apple Wallet and tap the plus sign (+) at the top-right corner of the screen. Select Driver’s License or State ID, then follow the on screen instructions to start the setup process.

The New Mexico government page detailing the feature also provides an important disclaimer, which is not unique to the state: “ID in Apple Wallet is available…at select TSA checkpoints (travelers should refer to checkpoint signage to confirm availability). ID verifier is available at select merchants.”

After a slow start to digital IDs in Wallet, we’re starting to see a little more momentum behind them.

Earlier this year California added support, which took longer than expected for Apple’s home state but also meant bringing on a huge population of supported devices.
