Apple this year introduced auto-generated transcripts to its Podcasts app, so that users could follow real-time transcripts of shows available on Apple Podcasts. Now the company is expanding auto-generated transcripts to more languages.
Apple expands podcast transcripts to more languages
In an email sent to podcast creators on Wednesday, Apple points out that auto-generated transcripts on Apple Podcasts are now available in eight additional languages, including Portuguese, Italian, and Swedish. The feature was previously available in only four languages. You can check the full list of supported languages below:
- English
- Danish
- Dutch
- Finnish
- French
- German
- Italian
- Norwegian
- Portuguese (Brazil and Portugal)
- Spanish
- Swedish
Auto-generated transcripts were introduced to Apple Podcasts with iOS 17.4 in January. Apple explains that podcast transcripts become available “shortly after” the podcast is published.
Apple automatically generates transcripts after a new episode is published. Your episode will be available for listening right away, and the transcript will be available shortly afterwards. There will be a short delay while we process your transcript. If portions of your episode change with dynamically inserted audio, Apple Podcasts will not display the segments of the audio that have changed since the original transcription. Music lyrics are also not displayed in the transcripts.
Users can view the transcripts by tapping the “Quote” button on the Now Playing screen in the Podcasts app. The news comes a day after Apple announced more updates to Apple Podcasts, including an easier way to find narrative series.
Apple Podcasts is available on pretty much every Apple device, including iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, Apple Watch, and HomePod. Make sure you have the latest version of the software installed on your device in order to get access to the latest features. More details can be found on the Apple Podcasts for Creators webpage.
